A QR code can only be tracked if it opens a link the generator controls, so every scan passes through a redirect that records it. The seven tools below all do that; they differ in how many tracked codes you get, how long scan data is kept, whether you can change a printed code's destination and what a branded domain costs. If you want unlimited free tracked QR codes whose destination you can change after printing, LotsLink gives you that. If you want QR-first extras such as design templates, menu codes or forms, QR TIGER and Uniqode are built around them.

I checked every tool on its own pricing, help and MCP pages on 20 October 2026. Prices are in USD, and "billed yearly" means the monthly rate on a yearly plan.

## The list at a glance

| Tool | Free tracked QR codes | Scan data on Free | First paid plan | Branded domain from | AI agent access (MCP) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| **LotsLink** | Unlimited, destination editable after printing | Country, city, device, referrer, all-time totals | No plan needed; plans only add custom domains | $4 a month per domain, or Starter $9 for 3 | Every account |
| **QR TIGER** | 3 dynamic codes, 500 scans each | Basic scan analytics | Regular $7 a month, 12 dynamic codes | Regular ("own domain, white label") | Yes, at qrtiger.com/mcp |
| **Uniqode** | None (static codes are free but untracked; 14-day trial) | n/a | Essential $9 a month billed yearly, 15 dynamic codes, 60-day history | Plus ($99) as an add-on, included on Business+ ($399) | Not found on its site |
| **Bitly** | 2 QR codes a month | No data history on Free | Core $10 a month (yearly only), 5 QR codes a month, 30 days of data | Growth $29 a month billed yearly | All plans |
| **Linkbreakers** | Credit-based, 500 tracked journeys a month | 2 weeks retention | Light $5.90 a month billed yearly ($7.90 monthly) | Free plan includes 1 custom domain | Free for all users |
| **Dub** | QR codes on the 25 new links a month | 1,000 tracked events a month, 30-day retention | Pro $30 a month, custom QR codes | Free plan includes 3 custom domains | Dub Links MCP, QR tool included |
| **Rebrandly** | 10 QR codes a month, watermarked | Country data, engagement data on 100 clicks a month | Essentials $11 a month billed yearly ($16 monthly), 250 QR codes a month | Free plan includes 1 custom domain | All plans (no QR tool in its MCP) |

Checked on 20 October 2026 on each vendor's own pages, linked at the end.

Changing where a printed code goes is common now; what differs is the price and the limit. LotsLink lets you do it free, as often as you need. QR TIGER includes it from Regular, Uniqode on its dynamic codes, Linkbreakers lists it as credit-based, Bitly from Core, and Rebrandly with 10 edits a month on Essentials and 50 on Professional.

## How I picked and compared

Every tool here is in my competitor research for LotsLink and either makes QR codes its main job (QR TIGER, Uniqode, Linkbreakers) or makes a QR code for every short link (LotsLink, Bitly, Dub, Rebrandly). I compared what matters once codes are printed:

- **Tracked codes on the free plan.** A static QR code holds the destination itself, so nothing records the scan. A tracked (often called dynamic) code holds a short URL, and the redirect counts each scan.
- **Scan limits and history.** Some plans stop showing scans past a quota or delete data after a window.
- **Editing the destination after printing.** Useful when a menu or flyer outlives its landing page.
- **Branded domain.** `scan.example.com/menu` looks like the business; a generic domain doesn't.
- **AI agent access.** Whether ChatGPT, Claude or another agent can make codes and read scans through an MCP server.

## 1. LotsLink: unlimited tracked QR codes, free

Every short link can have a QR code, and short links, QR codes, clicks and analytics are free and unlimited on every account. The code is a PNG of the short URL, 150 to 1024 pixels, in the colors you choose, so every scan goes through the LotsLink redirect and shows up in that link's analytics with country, city, device and referrer when available. Bots, link previews and prefetches aren't counted.

- **Free:** unlimited links, QR codes, clicks and analytics, workspaces and teammates. The one limit is up to 1,000 new links per person in any 24 hours.
- **Editing after printing:** change a link's destination any time, free. The short URL and the printed code stay the same, scans keep counting on the same link, and the change reaches every visitor within a minute.
- **Scan data:** all-time totals, any period up to 365 days, a daily timeline, individual click records, CSV or JSON export.
- **Branded domain:** one free `*.lots.link` subdomain per person; your own domain is $4 a month on pay as you go, or Starter $9 a month for 3, Pro $24 for 10, Business $59 for 30.
- **Teams and clients:** owner, admin, member and viewer roles, free and unlimited, with a workspace per client.
- **AI agent access:** MCP server and REST API on every account. Your agent calls `lotslink_create_qr_code` and gets the PNG back, and `lotslink_update_link` changes where a code goes.

Where it fits: menus, flyers, packaging, event signs and campaign posters where you want every scan counted without watching a quota and the freedom to send a printed code somewhere new later, and agencies running codes for several clients. What to know: scans are counted, not unique people, and changing a link's slug (not its destination) changes the URL inside the code. The full walkthrough is in [how to track QR code scans](https://lots.link/blog/track-qr-code-scans).

## 2. QR TIGER: a QR specialist with editable codes

QR TIGER is a QR code platform first: vCard, menu, file, Wi-Fi and social codes, design templates, bulk creation, and dynamic codes whose destination and design you can change after printing.

- **Free:** unlimited static codes, 3 dynamic codes with 500 scans each, basic scan analytics, a QR TIGER logo popup.
- **Regular, $7 a month:** 12 dynamic codes, unlimited scans, advanced scan analytics, edit links any time, custom UTM parameters, your own domain (white label), Google Analytics integration, 1 user, API at 500 requests a month.
- **Advanced, $16 a month billed yearly:** 200 dynamic codes and API at 3,000 requests a month. **Premium, $37 a month billed yearly:** 600 dynamic codes and 10,000 API requests.
- **AI agent access:** an official MCP server at `https://qrtiger.com/mcp` with sign-in, for creating dynamic and static codes, changing destinations and designs, reading scan analytics and exporting them.

Where it fits: businesses that print a fixed set of codes and want to change where each one goes later, with design control. Its pricing FAQ notes that dynamic codes stop working once the plan expires, so budget for renewing.

## 3. Uniqode: dynamic QR codes for larger teams

Uniqode sells dynamic QR codes with editable destinations, Linkpages, forms and team controls.

- **Free:** static codes, which can't be edited and have no scan tracking. Dynamic codes come with a 14-day trial and stop working when the trial ends unless you subscribe.
- **Essential, $9 a month billed yearly:** 15 dynamic codes, 60 days of analytics history, 1 seat.
- **Core, $49:** 250 dynamic codes, 90 days of history, GPS tracking, Google Analytics and Zapier integrations, QR Code API.
- **Plus, $99:** 500 codes, 180 days, 3 seats, custom domain and SSO as add-ons. **Business+, $399:** 2,000 codes, lifetime history, 5 seats, 1 custom domain included.

Where it fits: brands and larger teams that need editable codes, forms and SSO, and plan by the number of active codes. I didn't find an MCP server on Uniqode's own site.

## 4. Bitly: QR codes next to the best-known short links

Bitly pairs every QR code with its link management, landing pages and analytics, and scans are unlimited on every plan.

- **Free:** 2 QR codes and 5 links a month, unlimited clicks and scans, with ads. The feature table lists no data history on Free.
- **Core, $10 a month (yearly only):** 5 QR codes a month, 30 days of click and scan data, redirects for links and QR codes.
- **Growth, $29 a month billed yearly:** 10 QR codes a month, a complimentary custom domain, 4 months of data, bulk creation.
- **Premium, $199 a month billed yearly:** 200 QR codes a month, 1 year of data, city and device data.
- **AI agent access:** Bitly's MCP server is listed on all plans, with a tool that creates a short link and its QR code in one step, and scan counts in its analytics.

Where it fits: teams that already use Bitly for links and want codes in the same place. Monthly QR counts and data history grow with the plan.

## 5. Linkbreakers: QR journeys and lead capture

Linkbreakers treats a QR scan as the start of a journey: the scan plus every step that follows, up to the last redirect, with forms, contact cards and workflows along the way.

- **Free:** credit-based QR codes, 500 tracked journeys a month, 1 custom domain, 1 team member, 2 weeks of analytics retention.
- **Light, $5.90 a month billed yearly ($7.90 monthly):** 5,000 journeys, 2 domains, 5 members, 3 months of retention.
- **Pro, $24.90 a month billed yearly ($34.90 monthly):** 50,000 journeys, 5 domains, 15 members, 2 years of retention.
- **AI agent access:** a hosted MCP server at `https://mcp.linkbreakers.com`, which its help center says is free for all users, plus a CLI and API.

Where it fits: events, trade shows and physical campaigns where a scan should lead into a form or contact capture.

## 6. Dub: QR codes on an attribution platform

Dub makes a QR code for each short link and tracks scans as part of its link analytics, with conversion tracking on higher plans.

- **Free:** 25 new links and 1,000 tracked events a month, QR codes, 3 custom domains, 1 user, 30-day analytics retention.
- **Pro, $30 a month:** custom QR codes, 1,000 new links and 50,000 tracked events a month, 1-year retention.
- **Business, $90 a month:** 10,000 links, 250,000 events, 3-year retention, conversion tracking.
- **AI agent access:** the Dub Links MCP server includes a tool to retrieve a link's QR code.

Where it fits: product and growth teams that want scans and later sign-ups or sales in one report. More detail in [LotsLink vs Dub](https://lots.link/blog/lotslink-vs-dub).

## 7. Rebrandly: branded links with QR codes

Rebrandly is a branded-link platform, and each plan includes a monthly number of QR codes for your links.

- **Free:** 10 links and 10 QR codes a month (QR codes carry a watermark), 1 custom domain plus the rebrand.ly domain, unlimited clicks and scans, country data, engagement data on 100 clicks a month.
- **Essentials, $11 a month billed yearly ($16 monthly):** 250 QR codes a month, device data.
- **Professional, $32 a month billed yearly ($39 monthly):** 1,500 QR codes a month, city and referral-source data, 50 destination edits a month.
- **AI agent access:** an MCP server listed on every plan, for links, domains and analytics. Its MCP tools reference has no QR tool, so codes are made in the dashboard.

Where it fits: brands that want every link on their own domain and a QR code for some of them. More in [Rebrandly alternatives](https://lots.link/blog/rebrandly-alternatives).

## Which one should you pick?

- **You want every scan counted and every printed code editable, free, with no code limit:** LotsLink.
- **You want design templates and QR types such as vCard, menu or Wi-Fi:** QR TIGER.
- **You need forms, SSO and plans sized by active codes:** Uniqode.
- **Your team already runs links in Bitly:** Bitly, sized by QR codes a month.
- **Scans should lead into forms or lead capture:** Linkbreakers.
- **You need scans tied to sign-ups or sales:** Dub on Business.
- **Branded links come first, QR second:** Rebrandly or LotsLink with your own domain.

### Making tracked QR codes from your AI agent

LotsLink works with the AI agent you already use. Connect it once ([setup on lots.link/mcp](https://lots.link/mcp)) and ask in plain words: "Shorten https://example.com/spring-menu as spring-menu with utm_medium=qr, make a QR code for it, and tell me next Monday how many scans it got by device." The agent creates the link, calls `lotslink_create_qr_code` and reads the link's analytics later. When summer comes, ask "Point spring-menu at https://example.com/summer-menu" and the printed code opens the new page. Plans and prices are on [lots.link/pricing](https://lots.link/pricing), and the tools are compared side by side on [lots.link/compare](https://lots.link/compare).

## FAQ

### Can you track QR code scans for free?

Yes, if the code opens a link the generator records. LotsLink tracks scans on unlimited QR codes for free. Free plans elsewhere are capped: QR TIGER gives 3 dynamic codes with 500 scans each, Bitly 2 QR codes a month, Rebrandly 10 a month, and Uniqode's free codes are static and untracked.

### What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?

A static QR code stores the destination itself, so scans can't be counted and the destination can't change. A dynamic code stores a short URL that redirects, so each scan is recorded and you can usually change the destination after printing. LotsLink does that free on every code; QR TIGER, Uniqode, Bitly and Rebrandly include it on paid plans.

### Can I change where a QR code goes after printing?

Yes, if it's a dynamic code. In LotsLink, edit the link's destination in the dashboard or ask your agent. The short URL and the printed code stay the same, scans keep counting on the same link, and the change reaches every visitor within a minute.

### Do QR codes stop working when a plan ends?

On some tools, yes. QR TIGER says dynamic codes stop working once the plan expires, and Uniqode's trial dynamic codes stop when the trial ends without a subscription. LotsLink QR codes are free, so they keep working as long as their link is active.

### Can I put QR codes on my own domain?

Yes. LotsLink custom domains cost $4 a month or $9 a month for three. Linkbreakers, Dub and Rebrandly include custom domains on their free plans with lower limits, QR TIGER includes your own domain from Regular, Bitly from Growth, and Uniqode from Plus as an add-on.

### Can an AI agent create QR codes and read scans?

Yes, with LotsLink, QR TIGER, Bitly, Linkbreakers and Dub, which have QR tools in their MCP servers. In LotsLink your agent calls lotslink_create_qr_code, gets a PNG of the short link, and reads its scans in the link's analytics.

### Does a QR scan count as a unique visitor?

Not in LotsLink. It records each scan as a click and doesn't store visitor IP addresses, so one person scanning twice counts twice. Bots and link previews aren't counted.
